Callander Family Session- North Bay Photographer
Callander ‘s Sunset Cottages have been home to the Colebrander’s summer vacations for three decades. After 6 grandkids were added to the mix, they asked me to capture their family at their favourite place.
Big families with young kids can be challenging, especially the way I approach family sessions. Documenting interaction, personalities and emotion is more important to me posed group shots. Kids generally hate photos until they feel they have some agency, thats why I suggest planning a couple little activities they dig. Its way easier to take a photo of a kid stoked on something they’re building, one thats been told where to sit and smile. Same goes for adults to be honest. The magic of kids is they can forget I’m there much faster or incorporate me into their play. When that all goes well the adults forget too.
Sunset Cottages and the Colebrander family really knocked it out of the park. How could anything else matter besides the swing, sand, bubbles and watermelon. Though, we found out 6 out of 7 kids kinda hate watermelon which was pretty mind blowing.
I live in Callander, and had never been to Sunset Cottages. It’s such a gorgeous place… so nice to discover whats in my own back yard.
