Documenting a Year
Documenting Lauren’s last baby in mini sessions was such a mind blowing idea. I wish it was mine and that I thought of it when my son was an infant. Lauren wanted to capture all the things about mothering that are hard but beautiful, and most of all fleeting. Motherhood is boring, babies are isolating and somehow all you do is dream about having a bit of your life back only to miss the baby stage when it’s gone. It truly is the longest shortest time… like there’s a whole podcast about it.
I arrived at Lauren’s folk’s house to a scene of what looked like a baby gear explosion. Marion was passed out on Lauren’s chest in typical child punctuality of picking the least convenient time to nap when there’s a thing you have to do. But it was so great. I got to capture Lauren and Marion (and her sister with her kids too) in their natural state of baby led chaos of the perpetual cycle of sleep, eat, bounce, cuddle, walk, eat… repeat repeat repeat.
I’m so excited to document the last maternity leave Lauren takes with her last baby. How crazy is it that we bring these completely dependant little humans into the world and our job is to teach them to be independent of us. Successfully doing that job is as heartbreaking as it is rewarding.
Here’s a few other fam sessions Heidi and now her much bigger kids, Spencer and Steph and Henric, Cedric and Elisha in their cabin in the woods and long time pals The Demilles!
