Stormy Summer Wedding | Northridge Inn
A stormy day isn’t the end of the world. In Beth and Ben’s case, it felt like it made their wedding even better. Let me set the scene…
It was a little drizzly all day, the weather report said it was supposed to clear up and if Ben and Beth were worried, they sure didn’t show it. We made it out for first look and family photos under a tree and ended up running inside with umbrellas. It cleared up again for the ceremony (with some choice overcast skies for that deadly moody lighting) and the rain held out allllmost to the end… then the torrential rain came down. I don’t think I’ll ever forget watching everyone laugh and then cry laugh as they hid under coats and umbrellas, enjoying how ridiculous it was.
No one cared that they got soaked. It seemed to bring everyone together (in a collective drowned rat kinda way) and made for one of the funnest weddings I’ve shot. It was kind of a “Well I’m drenched now, so I’m down for anything” kinda vibe, though I suspect that may be the kind of people they are anyway.
The icing on the cake was when Beth and Ben offered to run into the lake in their full wedding attire. I’ve been half jokingly trying to get couples to do this since forever and they just actualized my dream. Do I retire now?
